St. Aidan's Weekly Newsletter
The mission of St. Aidan's is to make disciples by proclaiming Christ as Lord and making a difference in our community.
Third Sunday in Lent March 4, 2018
Lectionary Readings for the Third Sunday In Lent.
What Gets God's Goat?
In the Gospel reading on Sunday, March 4, Jesus enters the Temple in Jerusalem, where he rebukes the money changers, overturns their tables, and expels them with a whip of cords. What could have made the meek and mild Lamb of God respond so aggressively? In the sermon, we try to address this question as we look at “What Gets God’s Goat?”
The message about the cross is foolishness
to those who are perishing, but to us
who are being saved, it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18
Lent is a foolishness to many people, but to we Christians it can be a time of spiritual growth and healing, a time of grace and forgiveness, a time of challenge and hope.
St. Aidan's Choir Performing
The Choir under direction of Claire Binek will perform “There is a Balm in Gilead” at the offertory on Sunday, March 4. Claire and her husband Justin are pictured here with the newest addition to the choir, Cora Rose. Pictures: Carolyn Sturgeon.
First Sunday Anointing and Prayers
Fr. Shawn will be available at the side altar after worship on Sunday, March 4 for anointing and prayers for healing.
Rector's Discretionary Fund
The Church maintains an audited fund which is used by the Rector to help people with emergency needs such as utilities, shelter, and food. All undesignated offerings on the first Sunday of each month go into the fund; you can also make a donation by writing a check to the church and noting “Discretionary Fund” on the memo line.
“Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to God than they are?”   Matthew 6:26

God is your loving parent and will always care for you. God’s care may appear through your neighbor’s kindness, or your parents’ love, or your friend’s thoughtfulness, or from the actions of someone totally unknown.

Food for thought: What are the 'feeding stations' in your life? And how are you a feeding station to others?

As always, St. Aidan's thanks you for your concern for others and your support of our church family.

Blessings to you!

Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday April 1
Traditionally we have had an Easter Egg hunt for the children in our parish and family friends after the Easter sunday service We decided to keep this tradition, instead of hosting a community Easter Egg hunt the week before.

We do request donations of candy and plastic eggs to fill for our children. Please bring any donations to church the next few weeks before Easter Sunday. We'll be filling those eggs the Saturday before Easter.

Thanks so much!

An Invitation to the Ladies of St. Aidan's to Join Daughters of the King - Preparation: April - July
St. Bridget's Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King invites any woman at St. Aidan's who would like to become a Daughter to please contact Carolyn Sturgeon. There is a three-month preparation period required for membership which includes using a National Study Guide designed to help women prayerfully discern a call to become a member. We anticipate beginning the study in April and concluding with a Service of Admission in late June or early July. The study will be planned with the prospective members' schedules in mind. Please contact Carolyn Sturgeon for details, or come to St. Bridget's Chapter meeting after worship at 11:15 am on the Second Sunday of each month.
Save the Date: Daughters of the King Spring Assembly - April 21
The annual Daughters of the King Spring Assembly is scheduled for Saturday April 21, from 9 am to 4 pm. It is being held at Grace Episcopal Church, 715 Millington St., Winfield, KS.
Save the Date: Radio Gals - June 16-17
Due to their season ticket holders, many matinees are sold out. At present, there are seats still available for a group on Saturday, June 16 at 2 pm or 7:30 pm, and Sunday, June 16 at 2 pm or 7:30 pm. Are you interested in attending Radio Gals? If so, please contact Carolyn Sturgeon with your preference for date and time by leaving a message at (913) 782-7468 or by email to freckeye@yahoo.com.

Radio Gals is a lively musical comedy and a tribute to the light-hearted innocence of the 1920’s. Hazel Hunt is host of her own radio show, WGAL, and her idea of programming includes local gossip & healthy doses of The Hazelnuts’ musical & comedic talents! No show is complete without a love interest, of course … Enter O.B. Abbott, a govt. inspector sent to shut the radio station down. Hilarity ensues with a happy ending for all!
Whatever you do, do everything to honor God, for God's glory. Work heartily as for the Lord and not men. He is the one who gives you an inheritance for the Lord. 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:23-24

St. Aidan's is sending 5 members to Mega Camp June 3-9 at Camp Wood YMCA
The camp theme this year is Beyond Belief which will help campers ponder the BIG questions about God. What if God is bigger than you ever imagined? What if hope was real? What if you could change the world? Campers will explore how God can be seen in the vastness of creation, the power of community, and even in their own hearts. They’ll also discover how God’s endless love launches amazing adventures and that God always has new mysteries to explore.
