2021 Altar Guild Schedule
Fr. Tom's Talk ...
We continue our look at little known Saints. This week, we’ll look at Holy ones whose lives were a mixture of “I didn’t know that!” and “ewwww” (you’ve been warned).

St. Columbanus spent much of the 6th and 7th century roaming around Europe and his love of the open road led to him being named the patron saint of motorcyclists.

St. Drogo was so afflicted by a mystery ailment that made him physically repulsive that he’s now considered the patron saint of unattractive people. Entirely unrelatedly, he’s also the patron saint of coffeehouses.

St. Erasmus, went through an ordeal during the Roman Empire’s persecution of Christians in the 3rd and 4th centuries. Captured and imprisoned in the late 200s, Erasmus is said to have been freed by an angel and fled to Turkey to continue his preaching. Arrested a second time Erasmus so angered the Emperor Maximian that he had him beaten, whipped, placed in a barrel of spikes and rolled down a hill, covered in pitch and set alight, and finally—after he had somehow miraculously survived—he was disemboweled. Erasmus is the patron saint of stomach ailments, colic, and appendicitis.

St. Giles is said to have lived as a hermit in the south of France in the later 7th century, nourishing himself only with the milk of a female deer. Because of that, as well as being the patron saint of the city of Edinburgh, St. Giles is also the patron saint of breastfeeding (I warned you).

St. Gummarus of Belgium was an 8th century figure whose wife, a local noblewoman who was known for her abusive behavior. Despite Gummarus’s attempts to salvage their relationship, they separated and he went on to found an abbey and is the patron saint of difficult marriages.

Please let me know if you’d like to sit down and talk or enjoy a coffee, at a social distance of course, or feel free to call me at 785-670-0158, or email me at tbaker1102@yahoo.com. My office hours are Monday - Thursday 10 am - 3 pm. … Fr. Tom
Your sons and daughters shall prophesy. Your young shall fee visions and your old shall cream dreams." Acts 2:17
God's Spirit is moving, among young and old alike. We do well to respect the wisdom and experience of older person; we also do well to respect the energy, enthusiasm and new insights of the younger.

Daughters of the King ZOOM Spring Assembly June 5, 2021
Please join us for the Diocese of Kansas Zoom Spring Assembly on June 5th. You will be receiving an email that I will forward from DOK National Office to register for the Assembly. Click on the link to register.

The ZOOM room will open at 8:30 a.m. Central Time and the meeting will start at 9:00 a.m. and will end with the Holy Eucharist and installation of officers by 12:30 p.m.

This will be a very important Assembly as we will be electing Diocesan Officers to serve from September 2021 through August 2023. We are still looking someone willing to run for the Secretary position. This person will need to be able to attend Diocesan Board meetings, take minutes for all Diocesan DOK meetings, and send out mass email communications as well as snail mail communications.

General information that will be covered in the meeting will also be sent out via email to you. Please let me know if you do not receive the documents. Please assist your follow Daughters that may not have ZOOM capabilities to participate in the meeting.

Thanksgivings and Prayers

Thanksgivings – Birthdays & Anniversaries
We give thanks for the birthday of James Bush and the anniversaries of Jay and Tajuania Walters and Phil and Nikki Crowell. We give thanks for the people of St. Aidan’s and the privilege of serving each other, our church and our community throughout the year. We give thanks for the faithfulness and resilience of St. Aidan's parish as we all work together during this difficult time, finding new ways to stay connected in spite of the challenges.

Cycle of Prayer –
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Anglican Communion Office and its work on behalf of the Communion.

In the World Council of Churches Cycle of Prayer we pray for the people of Malawi and Zambia.

In the Kansas Cycle of Prayer, we pray for St. Margaret's, Lawrence.

For Our Parish Leadership –
We pray for our rector, Rev. Tom Baker and his wife, Cherie. We pray for the members of the Vestry: Senior Warden Jane Bush, Mark Sappenfield, Sarah Smith, Kathy Mencer, Bonnie Eckel, Clarice Ewing and Paul Reed for the Vestry Clerk, Janet Siefert; for our Treasurer, Tim Tatlock; and for our delegates, Carolyn Sturgeon, and Sarah Smith.

For Our Troops, Veterans, and Law Enforcement –
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women in the service and law enforcement at home and broad. Defend them with your grace; give them courage; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence; through Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the Departed –
Eternal Lord God, you hold all souls in life: Give to your whole Church in paradise and on earth your light and your peace; and grant that all your faithful people may at the last enter into your unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Guidance and Grace
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 For Healing –
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
