Fr. Tom's Talk ...
One of my favorite movies is Koyaanisqatsi (pronounced kojɑːnisˈkɑtsi) which is a Hopi word for "life out of balance.” Since the pandemic hit life has certainly been out of balance. Many are worried about just going outside. First responders are putting their lives on the line. Businesses have closed or reduced their hours. Millions are on unemployment, and hundreds of thousands are sick and have died. Even wearing a mask or not wearing a mask has become a symbol of our divided culture. All in all we can feel surrounded by fear and anxiety.
Last Sunday we proclaimed, “Where can I go then from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I climb up to heaven, you are there; if I make the grave my bed, you are there also (Ps. 139:6-7). I often read Psalm 139 when I need to be reminded that no matter where I go, or where I am, God will be there - even before I get there!
Of course this doesn’t mean we will never feel afraid or anxious. What it does mean is that God will always be with us. If you are feeling overwhelmed please give me a call; two ears - no waiting!
Please let me know if you’d like to sit down and talk or enjoy a coffee, at a social distance of course, or feel free to call me. My office hours are Monday—Thursday 10 am - 3 pm.
He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree.” Matthew 13:31-32
It can be hard to appreciate that a gift we might consider small, when combined with the gifts of others, can have a huge impact on the recipient. We shouldn’t hesitate to contribute regardless of the size of our gift.

Thanksgivings and Prayers - July 19, 2020

Thanksgivings –
We give thanks for the birthdays of Brayden Alexander, Susan Johnson and Jay Walters. We give thanks for the anniversary of Michael and Barbara Belt. We give thanks for our rector, Rev. Tom Baker and his wife Cherie. We give thanks for the people of St. Aidan’s and the privilege of serving each other, our church and our community throughout the year. We give thanks for the faithfulness and resilience of St. Aidan's parish as we all work together during this difficult time, finding new ways to stay connected in spite of the challenges.

Cycle of Prayer –
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Scottish Episcopal Church; in the World Council of Churches Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of Belize, guatemala, Honduras and Mexico; and in the Kansas Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the students and faculty of Bishop Seabury Academy.

We pray for the members of the Vestry: Senior Warden Julie Wojtas, Junior Warden Don Hutchinson, Jane Bush, Mark Sappenfield, Sarah Smith and Kathy Mencer; for the Vestry Clerk, Carolyn Sturgeon; for our Treasurer, Tim Tatlock; and for our delegates, Don Hutchinson and Carolyn Sturgeon, and our Alternate, Sarah Smith.

For Our Troops, Veterans, and Law Enforcement –
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women in the service and law enforcement at home and abroad. Defend them with your grace; give them courage; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence; through Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the Departed –
Eternal Lord God, you hold all souls in life: Give to your whole Church in paradise and on earth your light and your peace; and grant that all your faithful people may at the last enter into your unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Guidance and Grace
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 For Healing –
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
