Our Lectionary Readings for the 25th Sunday after Pentecost, November 11, are Ruth 2:1-5; Psalm 127; Hebrews 9:24-28; Mark 12:38-44

25th Sunday after Pentecost Collect...
O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had." Mark 12:44
The story of the poor widow's contribution out of her poverty, compared to those who contribute out of their abundance, is a reminder to most of us that we are greatly blessed and an encouragement that we strive to give generously out of what God has provided us.
Veteran's Day, November 11
November 11 is a day to recognize and to thank all who have served the United States to protect and preserve our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. God bless you and thank you.
Collect for Heroic Service
O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all people of this land share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Angel Tree Christmas Outreach
This year we are fortunate to participate again with Prison Fellowship in the Angel Tree Program. This is a wonderful way to be loving servants of God by making it possible for an incarcerated parents to give a Christmas gift to their children. It is also a way for their children to know that their incarcerated Mom or Dad loves them very much.  This year we have thirteen families and twenty children. Each child receives one or two gifts of about $15-$20; we purchase, wrap and deliver the gifts to the caretaker of the children. In the past I have called the caretaker before we purchase the gifts in order to find out what each child wants or needs. It is a joy to make contact with the families, purchase the gifts, and then to deliver them. So please contact me if you would like to “adopt a family” to make the initial contact. You don’t have to be the one who buys the gift, we can all do this. The Angel Tree tree will be up in the “garden” area of the narthex near the side altar starting Sunday, November 11. You can fill out the Angel Tree card and put it on the Tree so another parishioner can purchase gifts. I have found that it is best to contact the families as soon as possible, so please call me at 913-660-5646 to let me know if you would like to help. Thank you and God bless you. Marcia Streepy

I'D LIKE YOUR HELP - SHERRY SUDDARTH!
Some of you may know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June. I've had surgery and I am now in radiation treatments, (30) total. Even with insurance I am in need of financial support from my church family. Any donation is appreciated, and as always prayers are much needed. My prognosis is excellent.

I'd love it if you took a moment to check out my GoFundMe campaign:

BackSnack Packing for Elementary Schools:  You might have noticed the notes and drawings on the western wall of Sifers Hall when you come for Adult Forum before worship or share some fellowship and snacks with others after worship. These are thank you notes from some of the elementary school children who benefit from the BackSnack Program through the school year; these are notes written specifically to the good people of Saint Aidan’s for their faithful support of the program.

The BackSnack Program provides healthy snacks for eligible school children through a program administered by the school system, Harvester’s, and organizations such as St. Aidan’s. On Wednesday we pick up the boxes containing the packaged snacks at the Olathe School Resource Center in the early afternoon, and then at 5 pm we meet in Sifers Hall to “pack” the backsnacks in plastic bags which are then placed back in the boxes for delivery to five area elementary schools the next morning. Volunteers from St. Aidan’s then deliver the boxes of snacks to the respective elementary schools the next morning (they load the boxes either Wednesday afternoons after packing or Thursday morning before delivery.

We have reached out to other churches in the area to assist with the packing on Wednesday afternoons and encourage more parishioners to give half an hour of their time on Wednesday afternoons to pitch in and help pack – we guarantee a good time doing a good thing for some good children!! We are also reaching out to the parish for additional drivers. We need two more drivers on Thursday mornings to deliver BackSnacks in order to continue this important and beneficial ministry to the children of the community. Please see either BackSnack Coordinator Don Seifert (913 208-7393) or Father Shawn (913 660-5647) for more information – thank you and God bless you!

The Rev. Cathleen Chittenden Bascom was elected the Tenth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas.
The Rev. Cathleen Chittenden Bascom, D.Min., from the Diocese of Iowa, today was elected as the 10th bishop to lead the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas. She was elected on the second ballot during an election that took place in the worship space of Grace Cathedral in Topeka, receiving 64 votes from lay delegates and 56 votes from clergy.

Bascom is the first woman to be elected bishop since the diocese was formed in 1859. This also marked the first time in the history of the Episcopal Church that a bishop heading a diocese was elected from a slate of candidates who all were women.

Others on the ballot were the Rev. Martha N. Macgill of the Diocese of Maryland, and the Rev. Helen-Svoboda-Barber, D.Min., from the Diocese of North Carolina.

The Very Rev. Foster Mays, president of the governing body that has overseen the diocese in the interim period between bishops, said, “It delights me that Cathleen Bascom will be our next bishop. While this election was historic, at its core lay delegates and clergy were selecting the person who will lead this diocese for the next decade or more. I believe Mother Bascom’s many gifts and years of experience will serve this diocese well.

“I know that clergy and lay leaders from all our congregations are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in ministry with her, to share together the good news of Jesus and to serve the world in the name of our Lord. I’m very excited for the future of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas under her leadership.”

Bascom has been serving since the fall of 2014 as Assistant Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa. She previously had been dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Des Moines, Iowa, as well as rector of St. Stephen’s in Newton, Iowa.

She served for eight years in the Diocese of Kansas from 1993 to 2001, leading ministry efforts at Kansas State University in Manhattan.

She is the third priest to have served within the Diocese of Kansas to be elected bishop. The first was Frank Millspaugh, who was dean of Grace Cathedral, Topeka, when he was elected bishop in 1895. The second was Richard Grein, who was rector of St. Michael and all Angels in Mission when he was elected in 1981.

She also is the second priest to become Kansas’ bishop while serving in the Diocese of Iowa. The first was Thomas Vail, the diocese’s first bishop, who was rector of Trinity Church in Muscatine, Iowa, when he was elected bishop in 1864.

Bascom and her husband Tim have two sons – Conrad, age 25, and Luke, age 21.

The service of ordination and consecration by which Bascom becomes a bishop and assumes responsibility for the pastoral and administrative work of the diocese, will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019, in Grace Cathedral, Topeka. The chief consecrator will be Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.
