The Word of God Is Living and Active!

Our Lectionary Readings for October 14, the Twentieth-First Sunday after Pentecost are: Job 23:1-9, 16-17; Psalm 22:1-15; Hebrews 4:12-16; Mark 10:17-31

Click Here to view the Lectionary Readings.
"When the man heard (what Jesus said), he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions." Mark 10:22
Jesus suggested that the man give away everything he had.. no wonder he was shocked, no wonder he went away, grieving. Jesus' suggestion to each of us, though it may be different from this man's, may be equally shocking. What is that suggestion, and how do we feel about it?
STEWARDSHIP SEASON HAS BEGUN!
We are in the midst of our annual Stewardship Season and asks you to consider prayerfully your support of the parish.

Thanks to Gordon McDaniel for his special Stewardship talk Sunday morning, October 14.

During the past year the Vestry and Treasurer have diligently watched expenses and sought additional revenue sources.

Our goal for 2019 is to meet our projected budget of $160,000 through pledges and remain a viable and faithful worshiping community which loves God and serves God’s people. Thank you for your continued support of St. Aidan’s.
Prayer for Stewardship
O God, our loving Creator and Giver of all good gifts, bless our parish, strengthen our faith, and grant us the spirit of Christian stewardship so that we may give generously of our time, talent and treasure to build your kingdom here in our church and throughout the world. All this we ask in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
Stewardship: What You Do To The Least of My Brethren ...
We frequently hear news accounts of thousands fleeing from an oppressive regime, or from a hurricane, or of persons simply looking for a better life. Given such numbers, we may conclude there is little we can do.

However… we might remember the story of the boy throwing a few fish back into the ocean, on a sand spit covered with thousands of dying beached fish. An adult walking by mocked the boy, pointing out that his work was pointless given the number of fish. “Tell that to the ones I tossed back in,” responded the boy.
The Bible Challenge: Exodus and Matthew
The Parish has heard and risen to the challenge to read the Bible in one year – see Fr. Shawn about receiving the daily emails with readings, questions, and prayer. Week of October 14: Torah and Resurrection

The Adult Forum is looking at the other major religions of the world and comparing and contrasting them with Christianity. We meet in Sifers Hall at 9 am on Sunday. Sunday, October 7: Islam Part 2. Sunday, October 14: Hinduism. Please join us - there will be coffee.

BACKSNACK PACKING - CALLING PACKERS AND DRIVERS!!!

You might have noticed the notes and drawings on the western wall of Sifers Hall when you come for Adult Forum before worship or share some fellowship and snacks with others after worship. These are thank you notes from some of the elementary school children who benefit from the BackSnack Program through the school year; these are notes written specifically to the good people of Saint Aidan’s for their faithful support of the program.

The BackSnack Program provides healthy snacks for eligible school children through a program administered by the school system, Harvester’s, and organizations such as St. Aidan’s. On Wednesday we pick up the boxes containing the packaged snacks at the Olathe School Resource Center in the early afternoon, and then at 5 pm we meet in Sifers Hall to “pack” the backsnacks in plastic bags which are then placed back in the boxes for delivery to five area elementary schools the next morning. Volunteers from St. Aidan’s then deliver the boxes of snacks to the respective elementary schools the next morning (they load the boxes either Wednesday afternoons after packing or Thursday morning before delivery.

We have reached out to other churches in the area to assist with the packing on Wednesday afternoons and encourage more parishioners to give half an hour of their time on Wednesday afternoons to pitch in and help pack – we guarantee a good time doing a good thing for some good children!! We are also reaching out to the parish for additional drivers. We need two more drivers on Thursday mornings to deliver BackSnacks in order to continue this important and beneficial ministry to the children of the community. Please see either BackSnack Coordinator Don Seifert (913 208-7393) or Father Shawn (913 660-5647) for more information – thank you and God bless you!

For more information on all of our outreach programs, please see Ministry at St. Aidan's section below.
