Fr. Tom's Talk ...
May 31 and June 1 marked the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre, two days of violence when white citizens of Tulsa, Oklahoma attacked the Black neighborhood of Greenwood, also known as Black Wall Street, and murdered over 300 people. They also set fire to homes and businesses in an almost 40 block area.

Remembering the massacre and how we can address the racism that caused it then, and which still exists today, is incredibly important. The Black Wall Street Massacre marks one of the single worst incidents of racial violence in American history. The attack, carried out on the ground and from private aircraft, destroyed the once wealthiest Black communities in the United States. More than 800 people were admitted to hospitals, and as many as 6,000 Black residents were interned in large facilities, many of them for several days. The massacre began during the Memorial Day weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a Black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, the 17-year-old White elevator operator of the nearby Drexel Building.

In 1996, 75 years after the massacre, a bipartisan group in the state legislature authorized the Oklahoma Commission to Study the Tulsa Race Riot. The commission's final report stated that the city had conspired with the mob of White citizens against Black citizens; it recommended a program of reparations to survivors and their descendants. Legislation established scholarships for the descendants of survivors, encouraged the economic development of Greenwood and developed a park in memory of the victims.

Please let me know if you’d like to sit down and talk or enjoy a coffee, at a social distance of course, or feel free to call me at 785-670-0158, or email me at tbaker1102@yahoo.com. My office hours are Monday - Thursday 10 am - 3 pm. … Fr. Tom
"Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother." Mark 3:35
One of the early Christian communities' major struggles was determining who was in and who was out. Things haven't changed very much! We are still challenged to open our doors, broaden our tent, and recognize our brothers and sisters.

We give thanks for the people of St. Aidan’s and the privilege of serving each other, our church and our community throughout the year. Eternal Lord God, you hold all souls in life: Give to your whole Church in paradise and on earth your light and your peace; and grant that all your faithful people may at the last enter into your unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Guidance and Grace
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 For Healing –
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
