Fr. Tom's Talk ...
I’m writing this the day before the election. By the time you read this we will either know or be close (hopefully) to knowing the result of the election. As I write this however we don’t know and many (including me) are nervous and anxious about our election on one level or another. What does Jesus teach us about living in this kind of anxiety or living with results we don’t agree with.

First and foremost, Jesus teaches us to pray. In times of anxiety, uncertainty, and fear, prayer can be an amazing gift. But prayer is not a simple, “Please God, do what I want,” or “Please God, change what has happened.” While we might start our prayer in that way Jesus teaches us to find our way to being able to sit with God and grow to trust God more and more regardless of the situation.

I am reminded of Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Matthew writes that Jesus began to be sorrowful, troubled, fell on his face, and prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” In prayer, Jesus was authentic, real, with God. All his feelings of worry, anxiety, and fear were mixed in with his feelings of trust, calm, and hope in God’s love no matter what the situation. During this anxious time may we too place all our worries and trust in God’s hands. God will never let us go.

Please let me know if you’d like to sit down and talk or enjoy a coffee, at a social distance of course, or feel free to call me at 785-670-0158, or email me at tbaker1102@yahoo.com. My office hours are Monday - Thursday 10 am - 3 pm. … Fr. Tom
“Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour." Matthew 25:13
We often misinterpret this advice to mean to be on the lookout for ‘the end’ or something similar. But read the parable closely… it means we should be on the lookout to be of service. Rather than look for doom, let’s look for an opportunity to express our compassion and care.

St. Bridget's Order of the Daughters of the King has started an all-parish food ministry. We will strive to keep on hand at the church seven grocery paper bags of food (with a long shelf-life) to be available for Father Tom to give as needed.
We will use the Harvesters' Most Wanted Food List to guide us in filling our grocery bags. We invite any parishioner who would like to help with this ministry to contact any Daughter on Sunday after church or text/call Carolyn Sturgeon at (913) 499-9375

Drivers should plan to be at the church about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 28, and we will load the correct number of boxes in your vehicle for delivery on Friday. If for some reason you can’t make it on Wednesday afternoon, let me know, and we will leave your boxes in the narthex. Please remember to wear PPE (masks and gloves) when you deliver to your respective schools on Thursday.

Attached is the Back Snack Pack and Delivery Schedule for the 2020-2021 school year.

Thanksgivings and Prayers

Thanksgivings –
We give thanks for the birthdays of Don Seifert, Samantha Zamarripa and Tim Tatlock. We give thanks for the anniversary of Robert and Kathleen McGowan. We give thanks for the people of St. Aidan’s and the privilege of serving each other, our church and our community throughout the year. We give thanks for the faithfulness and resilience of St. Aidan's parish as we all work together during this difficult time, finding new ways to stay connected in spite of the challenges.

Cycle of Prayer –
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Lusitanian Church. In the World Council of Churches Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of Burundi, Democaratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. In the Kansas Cycle of Prayer, we pray for Good Shepherd, Wichita.

For Our Parish Leadership –
We pray for our rector, Rev. Tom Baker and his wife, Cherie. We pray for the members of the Vestry: Senior Warden Julie Wojtas, Jane Bush, Mark Sappenfield, Sarah Smith and Kathy Mencer; for the Vestry Clerk, Carolyn Sturgeon; for our Treasurer, Tim Tatlock; and for our delegates, Carolyn Sturgeon, and Sarah Smith.

For Our Troops, Veterans, and Law Enforcement –
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women in the service and law enforcement at home and broad. Defend them with your grace; give them courage; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence; through Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the Departed –
Eternal Lord God, you hold all souls in life: Give to your whole Church in paradise and on earth your light and your peace; and grant that all your faithful people may at the last enter into your unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Guidance and Grace
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 For Healing –
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
