Fr. Tom's Talk ...
The feast of Christ the King will be celebrated on Sunday, November 22; which is also the anniversary of my baptism in 1957, when I was 3 months old.
My dad who had Jewish heritage told me, ”If your Catholic mother insists you’d be baptized I’m going to ensure that the priest baptize you on the feast of Christ the King!” My dad was so determined that he finally wore down the Pastor of the Church of the Holy Innocents in Chicago to get me baptized on Christ the King, which was never done. According to him there was “quite a battle” that finally ended in a compromise with the pastor. Mom and dad choose my Godparents, one Catholic and one Jewish, and the priest would not baptize in the church but in the rectory’s kitchen sink! To this day, if I’m doing the dishes, I give thanks for my baptism :)
It is fitting that this peace accord between my parents and the church occurred on the feast of Christ the King that was established in aftermath of the First World War by Pope Pius XI in 1921. Christ the King is one of the latest feast day to appear in the church's liturgical calendar and in 1970 its observance was moved from the day before All Saints Day to the final Sunday of Ordinary Time.
The feast of Christ the King perhaps may not be so much about a King far removed on a royal throne but a Jesus who is in the needs of those around us. Each and every day we can encounter the living and real presence of God as we reach out to care for the needs of our neighbor. I’m very thankful for your constant commitment to our Angel Tree, Backpack programs and the Center of Grace. In these ministries, and many more, we remember Jesus saying, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Mat 25:40).

Please let me know if you’d like to sit down and talk or enjoy a coffee, at a social distance of course, or feel free to call me at 785-670-0158, or email me at tbaker1102@yahoo.com. My office hours are Monday - Thursday 10 am - 3 pm. … Fr. Tom
"For I was hungry and you gave me food..." Matthew 25:35
What an unusual kingdom Jesus proclaimed! No pomp, no circumstance, just care for one another, sharing food, companionship, home, liberty. Let's keep this kingdom in mind as we go about our daily tasks.

Thanksgivings and Prayers

Thanksgivings –
We give thanks for the birthdays of Ethan Jayaram and Landon Jayaram. We give thanks for the people of St. Aidan’s and the privilege of serving each other, our church and our community throughout the year. We give thanks for the faithfulness and resilience of St. Aidan's parish as we all work together during this difficult time, finding new ways to stay connected in spite of the challenges.

Cycle of Prayer –
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Anglican Church in the Falkland Islands. In the World Council of Churches Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the people of Cameroon, Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea. In the Kansas Cycle of Prayer, we pray for campus ministries across the diocese.

For Our Parish Leadership –
We pray for our rector, Rev. Tom Baker and his wife, Cherie. We pray for the members of the Vestry: Senior Warden Julie Wojtas, Jane Bush, Mark Sappenfield, Sarah Smith and Kathy Mencer; for the Vestry Clerk, Carolyn Sturgeon; for our Treasurer, Tim Tatlock; and for our delegates, Carolyn Sturgeon, and Sarah Smith.

For Our Troops, Veterans, and Law Enforcement –
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women in the service and law enforcement at home and broad. Defend them with your grace; give them courage; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence; through Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the Departed –
Eternal Lord God, you hold all souls in life: Give to your whole Church in paradise and on earth your light and your peace; and grant that all your faithful people may at the last enter into your unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Guidance and Grace
Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 For Healing –
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
