Our nursery provides care during our 10am Sunday service and our paid staff are Licensed and certified and Montessori trained.
The Children‟s Church meets each Sunday during Church Service. While designed for the younger youth and Nursery age children, all ages are welcome. We have activities and lessons from the Storybook Bible series and Story Keepers series.
Our education program changes with the ages of youth attending. We meet at 9 am each Sunday at the same time Adult Forum is in session. Our study takes the weekly lessons and uses the Lectio Divina or Devine Reading method which reads more than one version of the passages and discussion by the youth of what it means to them.
Fun and Games
St Aidans youth do fun activities. Sometimes it‟s a movie, Worlds of Fun, Bowling or simply lunch. Friends and Adults are always welcome to participate in all of St. Aidan‟s youth activities.
The Youth at St. Aidan‟s energize the parish, work in food pantries, serve as acolytes, sing in the choirs, provide music and in general bring life to everyone. Plus they are active participants in diocesan activities.
St. Aidans youth and adults carol our members who reside at Sunrise, Evergreen and Cedar Lake Residences. We meet at church for some lunch and warm-ups(vocal). We have made Angel ornaments to give to the staff and residents as we caroled. It always seems that the Christmas spirit is with us at this event.
The youth are invited to help at the last day before Lent starts. They have cooked, bused tables, collect tickets, setup or cleanup, all depending on the youth who want to participate. Of cource all are welcome to join in the feast!!
This event occurs in May and it is where the 10am service is reversed with the youth in the adult roles and the adults in the youth roles. St. Aidans has a unique tradition of inviting graduating senior parents to give the Homily(as we celebrate the end of another school year.
Camp Wood – MEGA Summer Camp
Each year in June the entire YMCA camp is “invaded” by over 200 youth. One coined the term MEGA to mean “Many Episcopalians Gathered Altogether”. Youth completing grades 3-12 and are broken into 3 progams and actiivties are attended by age group. Activities include horseback riding, challenge course, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, arts and crafts, soccer, basketball, tennis, and fishing. In addition to these YMCA activities, the Episcopal staff provides
further opportunities for recreation and spiritual growth. These include games and competitions, concerts, talent shows, dances, small group discussions, prayer, meditation, and daily worship.
Mission Palooza is a weeklong program in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area where, for five days young people are Christ‟s hands and feet in the world. The participants from all over diocese come together for community, mission, fellowship and worship. The event is for students finishing grades 8-12 of the
school year prior to the event.
According to our young people, Miqra is about making new friends, seeing old friends, having fun, and learning about the Bible and team work. This diocesan event is held every January at the Cathedral in Topeka and this year a second location housed the Junior High Youth. It is open to Middle school(Grade 6) and up. The primary focus is on reading the entire Bible during the 72 hour weekend.
As the youth take turns reading, other activities include worship, workshops, discussions, games, laughter and songs.
Happening is a weekend retreat put on "by teens for teens." It has also been called Cursillo for Teens. The program is focused on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ and centered on youth sharing their experiences and faith with other youth. Happening participants hear talks from youth and adult leaders on
topics such as identity, reality, prayer, faith, piety, and discipleship. Participants also spend time in small groups discussing the talks and engaged in activities. And of course there's lots of time for worship,singing, games, and fun.
