Notes From Fr Steve

Approaching a Midpoint and yet at a Whole New Start!

Well, the paperwork is signed and I’m now officially with you as your Part-time

Rector. I am honored and humbled with your trust, and I look forward to seeing what the Holy Spirit has in store for us as a worshipping faith community in Olathe. You do so much now and what is coming our way in the future? I again trust that the Holy Spirit will guide and encourage us along the way.

For the past two weeks I have been encouraging all of you to take a packet of

index cards and to fill them out with your input regarding Celebrations, Challenges and Dreams of your time and experience here at St. Aidan’s. As of today, I only have 11 sets and that is way too small for the numbered membership here! You have only two more weeks to get your voiced input into the process! If you have been “house bound” or on the road, take some time to send me an email via the church address and list those same three lists of your best 3-5 bullet points for each topic. I do thank you and promise that the exercise will not be in vain but will inform our future years of ministry together. I want to hear your input!

Also, on Sunday June 8th , remember that it will be Pentecost and to wear

“Red” to help celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. It will be a special day with the baptism of Holly Norris, a guest preacher (Holly’s Aunt from California that is a Presbyterian minister and who will be assisting with Holly’s baptism) In addition, the Winds of Harmony will once again be with us to provide music for the day! I wish to thank Dr. Mark Pretzel for his willingness to step aside on this day to allow the Winds to play. It is going to be fun!

As our Senior Warden (Don) explained last week, the “Green Team” has changed its name to the “Garden Committee” and need your used or extra gardening tools such vas rakes, hoes, shovels, and various hand tools. Bring them to church and they will find a nice safe home in the shed outside and help keep St. Aidan’s looking good and welcoming with curb appeal.

Lastly, June days for many are deemed the beginning of Summer and will be

taking vacations or longer stays in favorite spots in the “North”. Please remember St. Aidan’s in your prayers as well as with your financial support so we can continue during these summer months to provide effective ministry and witness to the “Good News” proclaimed by Jesus Christ.

Happy Summer and Safe Travel Blessings!

Rector's Discretionary Fund Sundays

It is standard practice in all Episcopal churches to provide for a fund to be used at the discretion of clergy for emergency assistance, shelter, or other needs that are made known to the parish. Disbursements from the fund can be made to persons both within and without a particular congregation. St. Aidan's has such a fund, and we have designated the plate cash from the first Sunday of each month for the discretionary fund. The fund also receives designated donations from parish members that are welcomed at any time.

In recent months, the discretionary fund has dwindled at times to almost nothing or zero, and clergy have been unable to meet legitimate needs. To address this, the Vestry has asked that we remind the people of St. Aidan's to be mindful of this fund in addition to your regular pledge or giving. All contributions to the fund will be used wisely by Fr. Steve.

In 1970, when I was a first semester freshman student at Sewanee, I remember receiving a $5 check from the discretionary fund from St. John's, my church in Parsons. I can't say it was an emergency, but it left a lasting impression on me. I wasn't old enough then to buy beer, so I hope I put it to some good use!

Thanks for your support and consideration.
